Apply to Register

From this section you can apply to register with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council.

You will be taken through a number of screens that will ask you for information relevant to the part of the register to which you are applying. Your application saves automatically on each screen, so if you wish to come back later, simply close your browser window and you can resume the application at a later stage by clicking again on 'Apply Online' in the left-hand menu.

At the end of the application process you will need to:

Pay the appropriate application fee - this can be done either by paying online or by telephone using credit/debit card, or by posting a cheque or postal order to the NISCC.

Submit verified ID documents - You can do this by printing the cover letter at the end of the application process and posting to NISCC along with your verified ID documents, or by scanning the verified documents and uploading them using the Upload a Document page in the left-hand menu.

Have your application form endorsed - If your nominated endorser has a NISCC Online account, they will be able to log in and endorse your form online, otherwise you can choose to print a copy of your application form and have your endorser complete a paper copy of the endorsement section. This can be sent to NISCC by post, or by using the Upload a Document page.

Please note your application will not be processed until we receive verified ID Documents and completed verifier/endorser sections, and you have paid the appropriate fee.

Once you are registered your registered status will show on the Public Facing Register and written confirmation will follow.

The new Standards of Conduct and Practice form the core regulatory framework for the social work and social care workforce.

1.  The Standards of Conduct describe the values, attitudes and behaviours expected of workers in their day to day work
2.  The Standards of Practice outline the knowledge and skills required for competent practice

A copy of the new Standards of Conduct and Practice can be found here:

http://www.niscc.info/registration-standards/standards-of-conduct-and-practice

The Standards provide service users and carers with a clear understanding of how a social worker or social care worker should behave towards them and the standards of care they can expect to receive.

Employers are expected to take account of the standards in making decisions about the conduct and competence of their staff. The Council also encourages employers to stitch the standards into its operational processes such as supervision and/or performance appraisal.
